BACHELOR OF ARTS IN GEOGRAPHY

The Bachelor of Arts Geography Major consists of a minimum of 35 units taken from the course offerings of the Department of Geography and Regional Development, including a minimum of 18 units at the upper division level.

Core Courses (15 units)

1. An introductory human geography course (3 units) may be satisfied by one of the following courses:
GEOG 210 Political and Cultural Geography of Globalization
GEOG 251 World Regional Geography
GEOG 256 Sustainable Cities.

2. An introductory physical geography course (3 units) may be satisfied by one of the following courses:

GEOG 220 Our Diverse Biosphere
GEOG 230 Our Changing Climate
GEOG 240 Our Dynamic Landscape

3. Two methods courses (6 units) to be satisfied by any of the following courses:

GEOG 303 Field Methods
GEOG 330 Introduction to Remote Sensing

GEOG 416A Computer Cartography
GEOG 416C Urban Geographic Information Systems (403 or 417 Prerequisite)

SUGGESTED CONCENTRATIONS IN THE GEOGRAPHY MAJOR

To complete the remainder of the 35 minimum unit requirement, students may design their own concentrations in consultation with one of the Department's Undergraduate Advisors or they may select one of the three suggested concentrations. Students are NOT REQUIRED to take their remaining units in a single concentration. The concentrations are only suggestions and mixing is permissible.

Environmental Concentration (12 units)

Students may focus their coursework on either physical geography, human geography or both in this concentration.
